Methodology

How the X list is ranked

Once or twice a day we collect posts about AI games on X and rank the games by the likes their posts gained in the last 24 hours, however old the posts are. Every game links to the posts behind its number, so you can check it yourself.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Collect the posts

A search bot finds posts about AI games on X: launches, gameplay clips, devlogs and players sharing what they made.

  2. 2

    Keep the AI games

We keep games where AI wrote most of the code or runs the gameplay, and drop posts that aren't about a game. The same post is never counted twice.

  3. 3

    Count the new likes

Every update we save each post's likes. A post's new likes are its likes now minus its likes 24 hours ago; a post from the last 24 hours counts all of its likes. When we first saw a post after it was a day old, its likes 24 hours ago are estimated from how fast it gained them, and its number says so.

  4. 4

    Rank the top 10

We add up the new likes of each game's posts, and the ten games with the most make the list. Games we've reviewed open their details here; the others open the post on X.

Counted in the list

  • Likes gained in the last 24 hours, on posts of any age
  • Posts by the developer and by players
  • Likes in all, reposts, replies and views: shown next to each game, not ranked

Not counted

  • Likes a post got before the last 24 hours
  • Ads and paid promotion
  • Posts we haven't checked in the last 24 hours
